About the Condition

Androgenic alopecia — commonly known as male or female pattern hair loss — affects approximately 50% of men and 30% of women by age 50. It is driven by the effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on genetically susceptible hair follicles, progressively miniaturizing them and shortening the anagen (growth) phase until follicles cease to produce terminal hair.

Beyond androgenic alopecia, hair loss can result from inflammatory scalp conditions (alopecia areata, scarring alopecia), nutritional deficiencies, thyroid disease, and post-inflammatory states. Standard treatments — minoxidil, finasteride, PRP, and hair transplantation — address symptoms rather than reversing the follicular microenvironment driving miniaturization.

MSC therapy offers a biologically active regenerative approach targeting the follicular stem cell niche and the perifollicular inflammatory environment that promotes follicle miniaturization.

How MSC Therapy May Help

MSCs secrete a rich cocktail of growth factors — including Wnt pathway ligands, KGF, HGF, VEGF, and insulin-like growth factor-1 — that directly activate follicular stem cells in the bulge region and prolong the anagen phase. Perifollicular angiogenesis is stimulated, improving oxygen and nutrient delivery to the follicle matrix.

In a randomized controlled clinical trial, scalp injection of MSC-conditioned medium significantly improved hair count, density, and thickness compared with placebo at 16 weeks. A separate study using direct MSC injection demonstrated follicle regeneration on histology, with clinically visible improvement in hair coverage at 6 months.

Regen Cord administers MSCs via local scalp injection in addition to systemic infusion, maximizing follicular exposure. True Regen coordinates baseline trichoscopy photography, follicle density measurement, and 6-month follow-up imaging to objectively document treatment response.

Expected Outcomes
  • Increased hair density and follicle count
  • Thicker hair shaft diameter
  • Prolonged anagen phase and reduced shedding
  • Slowed or halted progressive miniaturization
  • Improved cosmetic coverage in affected areas

Individual results vary. All patients undergo full medical evaluation prior to treatment.
