About the Condition

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease characterized by symmetric polyarthritis, synovial inflammation, and progressive joint destruction. Left untreated, RA leads to irreversible cartilage and bone damage, functional disability, and a significantly elevated risk of cardiovascular disease.

RA affects approximately 1% of the global population and is driven by a dysregulated Th1/Th17 immune response, elevated TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-17 cytokines, and the production of autoantibodies including rheumatoid factor and anti-CCP. Conventional DMARDs and biologics control symptoms in many patients but carry significant side effect profiles and lose efficacy over time.

MSC therapy offers an immunological reset — suppressing the pathological immune response at a cellular level rather than blocking a single cytokine pathway.

How MSC Therapy May Help

Allogeneic MSCs have strong, well-characterized immunosuppressive properties. They inhibit proliferation and activity of autoreactive T cells, suppress B-cell differentiation into antibody-producing plasma cells, and induce the expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) — all of which are dysregulated in RA. These effects are mediated through direct cell contact and the secretion of IDO, PGE2, IL-10, and TGF-β.

In published clinical trials, MSC infusions have produced significant reductions in DAS28 disease activity scores, CRP, ESR, and joint swelling in patients with refractory RA. Several patients in open-label studies achieved clinical remission and sustained disease-free intervals without ongoing DMARD therapy.

True Regen coordinates joint assessment, serology review, and current medication management before referring the patient to Regen Cord for cell manufacturing and administration.

Expected Outcomes
  • Reduction in DAS28 disease activity score
  • Decreased joint swelling, pain, and morning stiffness
  • Lower inflammatory markers (CRP, ESR, IL-6)
  • Reduced requirement for corticosteroids or biologic agents
  • Improved physical function and quality of life
  • Disease remission in a subset of responsive patients

Individual results vary. All patients undergo full medical evaluation prior to treatment.
